While it does have some potential to become the next chat platform, unfortunately the leadership moves quite slowly while overly ambitious... so the experience is somewhat unintuitive right now... But still, some large tech communities use it.

The key reason why I used Mastodon is because people seem more willing to meaningfully engage...

@g0ma_ I don't think GeoCities (and other similar free web hosting) is coming back (in both Japan and elsewhere), as personal domains and free/low-cost internet hosting have become more readily available to people. Still, it'd be nice to have that aesthetic back...

@shanie @BeAware There are already some active places for server admin discussions, like #mastodon_admin :matrix.org (general) and #space :matrix.iftas.org (moderation).
