ブッダに限らず、2500年前の人物を資料を読むときに、現代人はつい自分の理想を投影して解釈してしまうので、本当は言っていないことを解釈に含んでしまう。
しかし、古代人の言ったことを歴史的資料として読むだけでなく、「現代的なイメージとして」教祖の言ったことを解釈するのは、生きること・社会活動に取り組むうえでのエンパワメントとして有用であり、それが宗教の意義であると思った。（たとえばインドのカースト制度撤廃(1950年)には現代的に解釈した「階級差別をしない」ブッダ像が大きく寄与している）
読書タイミング的にはアメリカの🃏に慈悲を説いた牧師が思い出される……
