単に「引用ですよ」ということが言いたければクォーテーションマークに入れれば十分なんだけど，「いわゆる」みたいな言葉で導入したい感覚に引っ張られて入れがち
so-called 自体が軽蔑的というよりは引用であることを殊更に言うと当然「俺の意見ではないが」のニュアンスが伴って sarcastic になるんだろうと思うが，手元の辞書の解説は「what you [we, they] call, what is calledにはそのような含みはない」とあって，英語ﾅﾝﾓﾜｶﾗﾝになった

so-called を文字通りに読めば「そのように呼ばれているところの」で，「本人がそう主張しているだけの，自称」の self-proclaimed とか，「真偽のほどは分らないがそうとされている」の alleged がそれ自体として疑わしさを持っているのとは事情が違う気がするが，時のたつうちに否定的なニュアンスを帯びる方へ傾いてきたということなのだろうかしらん（さっきの記事の最初の回答で OED 引いてた人がいたけど，neutral な意味の一番新しい例が1863年だった）

そもそも一年目の労働量ではなかったが，それにしても今年はあまり勉強ができなかったのが残念だ．もちろん論文も本も読んだが，それは都度都度の必要に迫られてのことであって，「何のためにやっているのかわからない勉強」を2つ3つ抱えていないと優雅さに欠け情操によくない．
