@sb Yes. Essentially this involves
* Setting up certain well-known endpoints on your display domain, and
* Setting the proper LOCAL_DOMAIN in the Mastodon instance.
There is one tutorial in https://danp.net/posts/my-mastodon-setup/, but it involved patching Mastodon itself to satisfy the author's constraint of using static endpoints on the display domain. Alternatively there's https://jacobian.org/til/my-mastodon-instance/ which only discusses how to implement the first step properly.
@zed I actually have a M2 MBA and have installed Asahi Linux (both the former Arch Linux ARM and the new Fedora Remix) on the side as a partition, but it seems to drain battery significantly faster in normal use. Of course, they are improving its performance, but I don't think it's quite on par yet, given that the ARM architecture remains to be explored.
@deilann Beyond the minimum standard, I think the question right now is "what does defederation really mean" because for some instances, the answer is probably neither "to protect the community" nor "to promote better practices through peer pressure" at this point, and the result is either instance admins burn out walking a tight rope juggling various concerns, or they just won't care.
