信号のない横断歩道では横断しようとする歩行者がいないことが明らかな場合で、その横断歩道の手前に他の停車車両がいない場合のみ通過が認められる。（道路交通法38条）
ここで、自転車は車両であるからこの「歩行者」の判定から除外されるという解釈があるのだが、こうなる可能性があるので自転車が横断歩道の近くにいたら止まるべき。
なんだろう、自転車に関するルールがあまりにも整備あるいは徹底されてなさすぎて、自転車に乗る側も車に乗る側も、自転車のことを「歩行者」と「車両」との間で都合よく解釈している節がある。
