@ntnsndr On your website you shouldn't link to whatever the address bar says when using Element (or other clients). If you want to link a room, set a published address in room settings first, then right click the room and "copy room link." If you want to link to a profile, you can use matrix.to, eg. https://matrix.to/#/@ntnsndr:matrix.org .

@mwt I've moderated three joinmastodon.org-listed instances (mstdn.party and mstdn.plus right now, ieji.de before), and I can tell you that there are backlink bots actively hitting every open instance on the public list, sometimes even using compromised networks. Recently I've came up with a creative way to ban most of them automatically though...

@toolbear @ntnsndr For the first point, YMMV, but I've seen few cryptocurrency rooms, even fewer are native to Matrix (ie. not just "bridged for convenience"). On the other hand, Matrix is used publicly by major Linux distros, KDE/GNOME, and Mozilla. For the second point, Matrix has been there for quite a while (I started using it in 2020), so it is not a direct result of Web3. Still, I do agree that Matrix had a poor leadership, but it's being improved now that Josh is in.
