@nix I think it loops back to privacy as that is the most apparent practical consequence to enforcing FOSS. Then it's obvious that we are more tolerant of small websites than a full-fledged platform.

@xenogon @keefmarshall Then this is a problem with the matrix.org homeserver specifically. Try one of the other homeservers in https://servers.joinmatrix.org - some of them require neither email nor captcha!

@keefmarshall You're right, it's surprisingly unfederated (even though their rooms do have federated users), so I will delist this homeserver now. @xenogon Unfortunately there are few objective metrics for homeservers and I don't want to push people towards specific homeservers as that hurts decentralization (even if they're not matrix.org), but I can give you recommendations if you could give me a few criteria.
