@skye I'm aware... In fact I run the list, I already use a very lax inclusion criteria and there are still only that many homeservers...
Most homeservers (even the larger ones) are 1- or 2-person self-financed hobbyist operations.
There's catgirl.cloud, though the catgirl is more in name since Matrix homeservers are usually general-purpose, but it has good performance. For tech collectives, tedomum.net seems trustworthy, but I have not personally seen users in my usual hangouts.
@gsnedders Same! Also, sometimes the sky isn't that bright (especially now in winter of my town) so I have trouble waking up...
@juliank This sounds too good to be true in practice (though I do support it in theory). Retail investors have little power compared to institutions, so the former end up being ignore. Even when retail investors can and do intend to supervise their investment, the effectiveness is unclear; see GameStop. Still, I do think going public brings increased transparency, which can't be a bad thing.
@danielzenzes See https://servers.joinmatrix.org for public homeservers, and I can give you more specific recommendations based on your needs. The list itself emphasizes more observable factors like rules & policies, and you should also inspect each homeserver's webpage.
I am a Mac user and I use Element Nightly, but you can also use Cinny and Nheko.
