このところのFediverseの急激なユーザー数の増加は、サーバの増強が必要なレベルになっていて、運営者の負担が増大しています。
特に本家mastodon.socialの負担が大きいですが、周辺の中堅サーバもかなり頑張って踏ん張っているようです。海外の話ですが。
日本はそんなに大騒ぎになておらず（微風がいいところ）、Fedibirdもキャパ全然余裕なので大丈夫ですが、
力尽きてダメになってから急に閉めますっていうのもほんと無責任ですので、こういった寄付窓口を整備して告知しておくことは大事だなあ、とみていてしみじみ思います。

Fedibirdのサービスは無料です。
運営に必要な費用は運営者が賄いますので、今後とも利用者が負担する必要はありません。
ただし、急激な利用者の増加、負荷の増大、サーバ単価の上昇や、運営者の経済事情の悪化などにより、維持が困難になる可能性もあります。そこで、寄付により、利用者自身でサービス維持に参加する方法を用意しました。
