第一級の手続きと末尾再帰性の保証を備えるSchemeはそれ単体で制御フローグラフを記述するのに十分な表現力を持っている。しかし、その制御プリミティブである末尾呼び出しは引数付きのgotoに例えられ、その強力さは欠点ともいえる。
そこで、あえて表現力の弱い静的な制御フローグラフの記述言語を提供することで、ループ構造をより扱いやすい形で表現できるようにしようというのがこのSRFIの目的。

SRFI 242は名前の通り制御フローグラフを記述する語彙を定義していて、制御構造を提供するライブラリを書く際に末尾呼び出しとcall/ccに比べて構造化された記述をやりやすい環境整備が目的であって皆がこれを直接書くことは意図していない印象。
