BLAKE2はBLAKE2b、BLAKE2s、BLAKE2bp、BLAKE2spと同じ用途だけど違う環境にチューニングされた互換性のない4種類のバージョンがあるのが難点だったのは確かにそう
（BLAKEよりもラウンド数が少ない）BLAKE2よりラウンド数もっと減らしてもいいじゃんというのは "Too Much Crypto" https://eprint.iacr.org/2019/1492 と同じ立場ですね（どれもJean-Philippe Aumassonが関わっているからそれはそう）
オリジナルのBLAKEはSHA-3コンペに出していたのでセキュリティマージンを相当大きく取っていたという話はある
SHA-3に選ばれたKeccakも後にラウンド数を大幅に減らしたKangarooTwelveという変種が作られた
7ラウンドはギリギリすぎるとは思うけれど、1 KiB毎に区切って二分木を構成して並列化できるようにするアイデアは面白いな

SHAはSecure Hash Algorithmの略で、SHA-1とSHA-2はどちらもFIPS PUB 180-2で定義されているけれどSHA-3はFIPS PUB 202で定義されていてアルゴリズムの構成がかなり違う
SHA-1/2を定義している文書のタイトルはSecure Hash Standard (SHS) で、Deta Encryption Standard (DES) と同じ名前の付け方なんだよな
