Broadway Limited Imports on Instagram: "NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT: We at BLI are super excited and proud to announce that the most heavily requested locomotive is coming to HO scaler next year! The PRR S1! The PRR S1 stands out as the longest (140 ft 2 ½ inches) and heaviest (608,170 lbs.) rigid-frame reciprocating steam locomotive ever built. It was numbered 6100 and featured a streamlined shell designed by the renowned Raymond Loewy. With its unique 6-4-4-6 wheel arrangement, the S1 achieved remarkable speeds for passenger trains by eschewing articulation. Constructed at the PRR’s Altoona shops, the S1 was completed on December 21st, 1938, at a cost of $669,780.00 (equivalent to $14,671,066 today). After several test runs, it was proudly displayed at the 1939 New York World’s Fair, adorned with “American Railroads” lettering on its tender. Starting in December 1940, the 6100 began its passenger train service, hauling prestigious trains such as the Broadway Limited, Liberty Limited, The General, The Trail Blazer, and The Golden Arrow. However, due to its impressive size, the S1 was limited to routes with sufficient track clearances, specifically between Chicago, Illinois, and Crestline, Ohio. In our premier production run, we are thrilled to offer a meticulously crafted model of the prototype 6100 in its authentic Pennsylvania Railroad paint scheme, as well as its World’s Fair appearance. Additionally, we are offering unlettered models and a stunning Tuscan Red Fantasy Paint version. Each model features hand-crafted brass boilers, cabs, and tender bodies, along with die-cast locomotive and tender chassis. Our models are equipped with the advanced Paragon4 Sound/DC/DCC sound system, synchronized puffing smoke, and integral GoPack capacitors, ensuring an unmatched level of detail and performance.
