I think you don't have enough information to see this movie as a movie "focused on the families of the perpetrators"....
If you don't know the case on which the film is based, and if you don't know that the perpetrator "that guy" was praised as handsome and intelligent at the time, there are parts of the film that you won't understand.

There are a lot of descriptions that you can understand without knowing that!
